When a blood test helps
Blood testing is useful when antihistamines cannot be stopped, when eczema is widespread, or when we need component-level detail to understand the risk a particular food poses. Component testing (for example Ana o 3 for cashew or Ara h 2 for peanut) helps distinguish genuine high-risk allergy from cross-reactivity.
ALEX-3 multiplex screening
A single sample can screen for up to 300 allergen components at once — particularly useful for children with multiple or unclear triggers and when only low volume blood takes e.g. finger prick, is possible.
What happens next
Results are interpreted alongside your child's history and any skin prick testing. Where a diagnosis remains uncertain, a supervised oral food challenge remains the gold standard.
