A food allergy specialist diagnoses and treats food allergies, intolerances, and related conditions using detailed clinical history, examination and the latest allergy testing and treatment methods. Allergy specialists can also diagnose and treat asthma, hayfever and eczema; these conditions often occur together. WE make use of SCIT and SLIT immunotherapies as well as OIT and Biological medication use.

Common food allergy symptoms include oral discomfort and dislike of the food, hives (urticaria), swelling, stomach pain, vomiting, upper airway symptoms such as sneezing and cough, and lower airway symptoms such as difficulty breathing or a drop in blood pressure. Severe allergic reactions are known as anaphylaxis. Please contact our office to set up an in clinic, or remote home based, allergy test. A clinical history and allergy test can usually confirm the diagnosis, occassional we need to perform oral challenge tests in our ACE facility to be certain.

OIT is a treatment that, under specialist direction, gradually exposes patients to small amounts of a food allergen to build tolerance and reduce severe allergic reactions. Once tolerated, ongoing intake of the food is typically required, unless tests diminish over time. We will also offer SLIT therapies in ACE, commencing in 2026, for the treatment of food allergies.

We offer skin prick tests, allergy blood tests (IgE, and IgE component tests), oral food challenges, and patch testing to diagnose food and environmental allergies accurately. We can post a collection kit to your home and undertake a consultation via Zoom with these results to hand. This will be an ALEX test (not covered by all insurers). Collection can be facilitated using the micro needling device called Tasso.

Yes, we specialise in food and aeroallergy testing and treatment for infants, toddlers, adolescents/young adults.
There are however a few conditions we do not specialise in, such as MCAS.

Our practice, London Allergy Consultants, is based at the Allergy Centre of Excellence. This is a bespoke Allergy Hospital, able to offer OIT, SLIT, SCIT, Supervised challenges and clinical research trials. ACE has a bespoke Allergy Pharmacy and on-site Phlebotomy.
